| Spot the Differences Between a Diamond and a Cubic Zirconia |
|
|
Some men buy cubic zirconia engagement rings for a reason. These men actually believe that women cannot tell the difference between a cubic zirconia and a diamond. The truth is, women cannot be fooled. Diamonds are indeed a girl’s best friend and they know the real thing from the look alike.
Cubic zirconias are the world’s most popular diamond substitute. These stones are grown in laboratories and mare make to look like diamonds. The grading for cubic zirconias come in grade A to grade AAAAA. The single A grading is the lowest quality of cubic zirconia, easily spotted as a “fake” diamond. High quality cubic zirconias are grade AAAAA. They look a lot better and last a lot longer. The question is, if you purchase a grade AAAAA cubic zirconia engagement ring for your fiance, would she eventually find out?
There are a number of differences between diamonds and cubic zirconias. The quickest way is to look at the stone’s color brilliance. Cubic zirconias are colorful. They have less “white” brilliance and have more “colored” flashes of light. Rainbow colors are easy to spot in a cubic zirconia because of its higher dispersion of prismatic light. The second difference is in the cut. Cubic zirconias are polished and cut differently to maximize its brilliance and fire. Moreover, cubic zirconias are flawless, void of any internal inclusions. Diamonds in the market today are rarely flawless. Another quality of a cubic zirconia is its color. When compared to diamonds, cubic zirconias match the D color grade in a diamond color grading chart. Most of the diamonds in the market today are from the G to J color range. A genuine D color diamond is very rare.
The popularity of cubic zirconias is largely due to its cheap price. Is it a good choice to settle for a cubic zirconia engagement ring in place of a diamond engagement ring? Our answer: No. You can never fool your fiance. The “ugly” truth will show in time.
