Bigger Carat Weight Translates to Greater Diamond Color Exposure

caratEverybody loves a brilliant diamond. Most women will appreciate a bigger size too. However, the bigger the carat weight of a diamond, the more obvious a diamond’s color becomes. With a larger diamond, the naked eye can see more of a diamond’s mass. Just like a window that has a faint yellow tint, it may not be noticeable at first glance. However, if we put another faint yellow-tinted window on top of it, the two layers of tinted glass intensify the yellow-tone. Adding more layers of faint yellow-tinted windows will all the more make the yellow color obvious.

Larger diamonds are much thicker that act as layers that intensify the stone’s yellow hue. A 0.25-carat diamond with J color for instance looks white to the naked eye. A 1.00-carat diamond with the same J color grading will look faint yellow to the naked eye. You can just imagine what a 2.00-carat J-colored diamond looks like. In essence, it is better to upgrade your diamond to a better color than a bigger size since smaller gemstones somehow mask the faint yellow tint.

If you are shopping around for a large diamond, make sure that you also consider buying one with a high color grading. Otherwise, it will not look pristine and colorless but yellowish. If this were the case, you will be better off buying a yellow-colored gemstone instead of a diamond. Consider working around your budget so you do not overspend and still be happy with your diamond purchase. If you are to match big stones with smaller stones for a jewelry article, you must choose higher color grades for the bigger diamond than the small ones or else the final result will not look beautiful.
